The purpose of the Preneed Recovery Fund is to reimburse purchasers of preneed funeral contracts who have suffered financial loss as a result of the malfeasance, misfeasance, default, failure, or insolvency in connection with the sale of a Preneed Funeral Contract by a Licensed Funeral Director.
Ohio Administrative Rule 4717-14-14 details the reimbursement process administered by the Board.
Valid Preneed Funeral Contracts that were written prior to September 29, 2017 or after this date, are eligible for reimbursement where the death occurs after September 29, 2017 and the Licensed Funeral Director caused the financial loss through malfeasance, misfeasance, default, failure, or insolvency.
Completed applications submitted to the Board will undergo a review and investigation by Board staff. Reimbursement, which is at the discretion of the Board and not a right, will be made after the Board verifies the claim is valid and the applicant is entitled to seek reimbursement.
