Active licensees have two years to earn 18 hours of approved continuing education credits. Sponsors of approved continuing education programs provide participating licensees with a "certificate of completion" at the end of each activity. Licensees retain proof of their own continuing education hours for a minimum of four (4) years, or until required to submit proof during a random audit. List of approved continuing education programs are available on below, along with forms/applications that licensees may download to submit to the board office for approval. Continuing Education Audit During the renewal period, the Board will audit randomly selected licensees and request proof that the licensee obtained 18 hours of approved credits. All licenses are not required to send proof to the Board office. Licensees included in the audit will be notified individually and provided instructions. Sponsors Sponsors wishing to provide authorized continuing education must complete a Continuing Education application (link below) with the following information: date of activity; subject offered; total hours; names and qualifications of speakers; outline of activity by hour showing break and/or meals; sample of the sponsor's certificate of completion. Applications must be approved by the Board prior to the date of the activity. Application must be received by the Board office no later than 12:00 p.m. on the Thursday prior to a board meeting for consideration at that month's meeting of the board. Exemptions and Waivers A Waiver of the continuing education requirement is considered by the Board for physical disability, illness, or undue hardship. A waiver is good for a single compliance period. The licensee continues to pay the renewal fee, but is not permitted to serve as a manager of a funeral home. An Exemption of the continuing education requirement is considered by the board when a licensee signs a statement that the licensee will not practice embalming or funeral directing. An exemption is good for an indefinite period of time. The licensee continues to pay the renewal fee to retain licensure, but is not permitted to serve as a manager of a funeral home. An Exemption for 50 Years of Licensure is considered by the Board for licensees who have maintained licensure for fifty years. The licensee continues to pay the renewal fee, but is not permitted to serve as a manager of a funeral home.
